EXHIBITION IN COLD SPRING HARBOR LABORATORY

Perception of Cold Spring Harbor in Winter No. 1
47" x 59"
Ink on paper
2023
Inspired by the unique and pristine scenery of Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory, artist Li Xiaoqiang abstracted the wintery landscape and generated the series of "Perception of Cold Spring Harbor in Winter." The first piece of this series reflects his awakening experience during his first winter sojourn in Long Island, New York. Serendipitously arriving at Cold Spring Harbor alone, he was profoundly captivated by the serenity of the snowy landscape. Had been searching for new revelations and artistic expression of his New World journey, this transformative moment symbolized the beginning of a nouveau stage of his artistic career. The painting, composed of myriads of fragments, necessitates restraint when confronting these pieces. Faced with the mysterious special paper from the East, the artist transcended limitations, effortlessly capturing the beauty bestowed by nature. This results in a truly impressive de novo work of abstract art.
